Hi, Catherine Saxelby here.  Welcome to my website!

My official Bio (you can download it in pdf format) is below but I just wanted to tell you a little about me first.

I'm a nutritionist and my passion is helping people who haven't got a lot of spare time. Like you, I'm busy but still need to eat healthily. I love looking at food products, new diet books and teaching tools. That's why I've created the Foodwatch website as a way to share some of what I've learned as a nutritionist, small business owner and busy Mum of two.

No-nonsense nutrition

I want healthy eating to be easy - without all the nonsense and confusion that surrounds food, eating and diets these days. As you can imagine, along the years I've been writing and lecturing, I've picked up a heap of incredibly useful tips and little-known hints along the way.

Foodwatch is a blend of art and science - the art of cooking up quick healthy meals plus the science of food and food theories.  Here's the range of topics I cover:

• food products and ingredients
• super foods
• recipes and how to cook
• where to go for sound, sensible advice
• how to judge a new diet
• how to judge a food
• healthy weight loss and how to stay slim in a world that's full of junk food eating out without going overboard
• additives and,
• eating for energy

My background

What's my background as a nutritionist? I've been working in the field for the last 25 years in many different areas including work in a hospital, a clinic, research centre as well as for food companies, government departments and magazines.

Here's a bit about my food background:

• Worked as a hospital dietitian
• Taught high school and TAFE students as well as adult education
• Advised growers and manufacturers how to market their products with nutrition in mind
• Served as a nutrition editor and freelance journalist (for magazines and newspapers) for the last 12 years.
• Written over 2000 articles
• Published 9 books on eating and special diets. Nutrition for Life is one of the best-selling books on nutrition with sales almost tipping half a million over 20 years.
• Researched and analysed hundreds of foods and products
• Critiqued nutrition assessment programs for healthy foods
• Created a successful website
• Analysed hundreds of recipes
• Created dozens of facts sheets and resources that are used by doctors, dietitians and teachers
• Acted as media spokesperson for radio and television
• Have done an awful lot of cooking from everyday meals for the family to bulk dishes for volunteers, to teaching kids how to cook simple meals to modified recipes for medical diets like gluten-free and salt-free.
