Q. How can I put ON weight, I’m desperate? I’m male, have been skinny all my life and doctors say they can't help. Any advice?

A. Often it’s just as hard to put on weight as it is to lose weight, particularly if you come from a family with a tall slender build which you’ve no doubt inherited. On the plus side, as you get older, your skinny build will become an advantage as you’re less likely to succumb to heart troubles or diabetes, conditions which are aggravated by being overweight.

EatKit Archive: TEA, HEALTH AND HAPPINESS

Tea - black, green, white or herbal - is one of life's precious things. It allows you to relax, chillax, refresh and be revived. It encourages a conversation and openness in a way that water, soft drink or coffee never can do. It is a joy to sip and savour. It is one of my favourite moments in life. If you share the same feelings about tea as I do, take a moment to read our thoughts and tea moments from the May EatKit online Twitter chat.

THE QUESTION IN FULL

Q. What's the difference between green tea and black tea? And can I drink green tea at night when I don't want caffeine?

A. Both green and black tea come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis tea bush. Whether these tea leaves end up green or black depends on how they are processed.

Detox kits - why they don't work

Detox diets and detox 'cleansing' kits are big sellers. They promise lots of things - to purify the body, remove 'wastes' and eliminate 'toxins' (which are never really defined) and rejuvenate the liver. They say they can improve a sluggish digestion, revitalise the skin and boost your energy. Detox has become so accepted in our time-poor, instant world that many people embark on one whenever they've overdone the excesses of life and feel the need to refresh and revitalise. After Christmas is a classic time.

Q. Should I be following a special diet now that I have had my gall bladder out?

A.  In most cases, no special diet is needed. Your gall bladder is usually removed if it contains gall stones that can block the bile tube leading from the gall bladder to the small intestine.

Product Review: Coco Pops Liquid Breakfast

Most health professionals have a set against pre-sweetened kids’ cereals, as they’re generally low in fibre and only train young taste buds to prefer a bowl of ‘something sweet’ at breakfast. So when I spotted a new ready-to-drink breakfast liquid under the Coco Pops brand at the supermarket, I had to investigate.

7 reasons why I love to drink tea

There's nothing as refreshing and relaxing as a cup of tea. It's my favourite hot drink by a long way and one I look forward to every day. I drink almost every type of tea there is. English Breakfast with milk is my favourite but I'm also partial to a delicate Ceylon and most things herbal like lemon and ginger or anything with a little peppermint. The only tea I'm not fond of is Earl Grey.
